Students will be working on "The Cask of Amontillado" Newspaper Writing Prompt

Students will learn to apply knowledge of a story to the format of Newspaper writing. They will learn the correct structure of writing for the newspaper including: headlines, bylines, captions, leads, intros, and explanations. They will need to work together to assign title of newspaper, articles, advertisements, sections, etc.. Each student is responsible for an article.

They will be responsible for: brainstorming, outline, rough draft, peer editing, and the final copy. The newspaper will be completed next week.

Typed rough drafts of articles are due on Monday, December 19th at the start of class! You had all period on Friday in the computer lab to work on them.

Typed rough draft should be emailed to Mrs. Hoppel or Mrs. Kunkel by Wednesday, December 21st!

Friday - Student will go over and make corrections to the study guide that accompanies Act IV of Romeo & Juliet. We will then apply the literary elements that you learned to Act III using the powerpoint presentation. Be ready for a quiz on all of Act IV on Monday! Study!

On Wednesday (11/30) through Friday (12/1) we were in the library so that students could type the rough drafts of their research papers. All students were given a manilla folder to put all off their materials into in order to hand them in. Rough draft & all other materials that were completed are due at the start of class on Monday 12/5.

Tuesday and Wednesday - Today we will be working on the following literary terms regarding plot diagrams: exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution. Noun review worksheets due Thursday, 9/29 at the start of class!
Cut & Paste activity for appositives is due Wednesday, 9/28. Remember to glue the sentences you create from combining the top half of the worksheet with the appositives found at the bottom of the worksheet to the blank white sheet given to you in class. Remember to add punctuation as needed.
You will also have a quiz on appositives on Wednesday, 9/28.
Vocabulary 5 & 6 are due Monday, 10/3.

Learning Support English 9 (Pd. 6) -

Monday - Students will continue learning how to spell nouns correctly. They will work on nouns ending in f, fe, o, and irregular nouns. If they do not complete the worksheets assigned in class, they are homework.
Tuesday - Students will work on spelling and utilizing singular and plural possessive nouns correctly. If they do not complete the worksheets assigned in class, they are homework.
Wednesday - Students will work on defining and identifying concrete and abstract nouns. Worksheets will be completed in class. The students will then complete the Chapter 4 book review on pages 92-93. They must complete both the vocabulary review #1-7 and the chapter quiz #1-15. If they do not complete it in class, it is homework.
Thursday - We will go over and make corrections to the chapter 4 review in class today. We will then review any areas students had trouble with to prepare them for their test on all of Chapter 4 that they will take on Friday, 9/30.
Friday - Students will take the Chapter 4 test today. No homework this weekend!!!!

Limericks are due Monday! They must be typed unless other arrangements have been made with us personally!

Monday - Students will complete the Chapter 3 Review on pages 70-71 in the grammar textbook independently. They will complete the vocabulary review #1-5 and the chapter quiz #1-16. If they do not complete it in class, it is homework.
Tuesday - The Chapter 3 textbook review is due if it was not completed in class on Monday. We will go over it in class. Sections that the students struggle with with be retaught. Students will need to study for a comprehensive test on all of chapter 3 that will take place on Wednesday, 9/21. They should study the words to know for chapter 3 on page 55 of the textbook, the powerpoints provided to them, the chapter 3 review they completed, and the worksheets they completed in class.
Wednesday - Students will take the Chapter 3 test during class today. After the test they will review the words to know and learning objectives for Chapter 4.
Thursday - Students will define, identify, and use singular, plural, and collective nouns in a variety of ways through the use of Practice activities in the textbook (pgs. 74-76) and worksheets. If they do not complete the worksheets assigned in class, they are homework.
Friday - Students will spell plural nouns correctly, specifically those ending in x, s, z, ch, sh, and y. They will complete book activities and worksheets. If they do not complete the worksheets assigned in class, they are homework.

Monday - We will begin a unit on nouns. You will copy the words to know from Chapter 3 in your grammar book into your notebook. You will be introduced to the basics of nouns through a powerpoint presentation. You will then complete Practice A, B, C, and D on pgs. 56-58 of your grammar book. If you do not complete the book activities in class, they are homework.
Tuesday - You will learn about the three types of compound nouns. You will learn about them through a powerpoint presentation and hands-on activities. You will then complete worksheets. If you do not complete the worksheets in class, they are homework.
Wednesday - You will learn about common and proper nouns. You will complete book activities on pages 60-63 and we will go over them in class.
Thursday - We will continue to learn about common and proper nouns. You will complete book activities on pages 64-65 and we will go over them in class. You will then complete worksheets on capitalizing proper nouns. If you do not finish them in class, they are homework.
Friday - You will apply what you learned about common and proper nouns through learning stations in class. There will be no homework over the weekend unless you were absent during the week.

Monday - Enjoy your day off!
Tuesday - Introduce literary terms and unfamiliar vocabulary for "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty." We will begin reading the short story in class.
Wednesday - We will review the literary terms and apply them to what we have read so far. We will continue reading and identify unfamiliar vocabulary using context clues in the text.
Thursday - We will finish reading the story. Students will complete a packet and apply the literary terms to what they have read.
Friday - We will go over Lesson 1 vocabulary. Students will then write sentences for vocabulary words.

Monday -Review classroom rules, fire drill & severe weather procedures, needed materials for class, and classroom procedures.
Tuesday - Review course requirements & grading procedures. Students will receive textbooks and be expected to keep them covered at all times.
Wednesday - Students will complete a daily language review sheet. They will then complete a journal entry, writing a minimum of one paragraph.
Thursday - Students will complete a daily language review sheet. They will then complete their first round of progress monitoring by reading a passage and completing reading comprehension questions for the passage.
Friday - Students will complete a daily language review sheet. They will then write definitions and sentences for their first vocabulary lesson.
